On the morning of January 7, 2020, the second meeting of the first academic committee of the Department of Science, Technology and Medical History of Peking University was held in Room 101, Jingyuan First Hospital, Peking University. The first academic committee was composed of Director Xu Zhihong, Rao Yi, and Deputy Director Liu Du, and members of Han Qide, Zhang Xu, Zhang Daqing, Zhou Cheng, Zhu Xing, Wu Guosheng, and Armed Forces. At this meeting, Academician Han Qide, the director of the Department of Science and Medical History, issued a letter of appointment to the members of the first academic committee. Professor Zhang Xie reported on the progress of the construction of the department over the past year. .

Professor Zhang Li first reviewed the founding process of the Institute of Science and Culture and the Department of Science, Technology and Medical History, as well as the current organizational structure. In December 2018, the China Association for Science and Technology-Peking University (Union) Institute of Science and Culture was officially opened; in April 2019, the Department of Science, Technology and Medical History of Peking University was opened. Since the beginning of the fall semester of 2019, under the leadership of Academician Han Qide, the head of the department (dean), in accordance with the "six one" work goal, to build the characteristics of the history of science and technology of Peking University, establish the leading position of domestic disciplines, and expand international influence. Focus on steadily advancing the work of the department.

Professor Zhang Li summarized and reported on the academic activities and education of the faculties in 2019, and the faculty construction plan for 2020.
First, hold a series of lectures on "Science and Civilization" to create a platform for communication and dialogue between the humanities and the natural sciences. This series is co-curated by the Department of Medical and Medical History and Peking University Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences. It invites first-class scholars in the field of the history of science and technology and the intersection of science and humanities at home and abroad to discuss important topics from the perspective of science and civilization. The lecture was launched in the autumn semester of 2019 and has been successfully held for five sessions. The lecture covers the question of science and civilization, the origin of the Greek scientific spirit, the Chinese academician system, disasters and digital humanities, and commercial operations behind well-known international scientific journals. It is rich in content, praised by academia, and attracted the attention of the public and mainstream media.
Second, establish a national joint system of persons in charge of the history of science and technology disciplines, and form a domestic academic exchange network. In October, Academician Han Qide issued an initiative at the annual meeting of the National Institute of Science History to establish a national system of joint leaders of science and technology history disciplines. Effective channels for such departments to fully and timely reflect the demands of the subject community. The joint meeting is planned to be held every semester, and the 27 disciplines nationwide participating in the meeting actively responded to this initiative. On December 21, the Department of History of Science hosted the first national joint meeting of heads of science and technology history subjects. A total of 53 participants from 28 colleges and universities across the country participated in the meeting. In just one day, the representatives of various disciplines had full exchanges and discussions on their core curriculum settings, subject evaluation experience, and future joint working mechanism. The holding of the joint meeting marks the birth of a new academic community in the history of science and technology in China. The joint meeting mechanism will become a new platform for intra-disciplinary communication and development, and an effective mechanism for communication and feedback with higher-level management departments.
Third, start the research work on the history of science at Peking University for a century. As one of the main research directions of the Department of History of Science, Technology and Medicine, the history of science disciplines such as physics, chemistry, mathematics, and biology at Peking University will be taken as the research object to investigate the establishment and development of science disciplines at Peking University. On December 6th, the first related academic event "Hou Renzhi's Manuscripts in English Volumes" has been held. It was jointly organized by the Department of Science, Technology and Medical History, and the Historical Geography Research Center of the City and Central University. At the event, many teachers concerned about the history of science have jointly discussed how to better and more orderly promote the standardization of science history research in the next step and further promote the history of science.

Fourth, host the first China Science and Culture Forum and host the Beijing Forum sub-forum. The China Science and Culture Forum is a public-oriented platform that focuses on leading scientific and cultural construction and practical activities. At the forum in April 2019, more than 300 audiences participated in a whole day of academic speeches and discussions. Such an open platform for public communication has an important role in the spread and construction of science and culture. At the beginning of November, the Beijing Forum sub-forum "Science and Technology, Health and Society in the Perspective of Science and Culture" was co-organized by the Academy of Science and Culture and the School of Medicine and Humanities, bringing together 33 well-known experts and scholars from 8 countries to exchange ideas under the theme of the sub-forum The discussion included scholars of the history of science and scholars of science communication, as well as experts and scholars from museums and libraries. With the help of such international forums, the Department of Science History of Peking University seeks to establish close exchanges and cooperation with the international scientific history community and related fields, which can really promote the study of scientific history and promote scientific and cultural theoretical research and practical activities based on scientific history.
Fifth, the first edition of the "Spine of the Republic" scientist picture book series was published. In November, the first volume of the "Spine of the Republic" scientist's picture book series, which was planned and organized by the Research Institute of Science and Culture, was published by Beijing Publishing Group. This set of original picture books of Chinese scientist stories is based on the “Scientist Association ’s“ Old Scientist Academic Growth Data Collection Project ”. It is the first set of scientific, interesting, and artistic scientist picture books in China. 12,000 copies have been printed and highly praised by many children's book writers, critics and the media, showing good social benefits.

After Mr. Zhang Li's report was completed, the academic committee members discussed the problems facing the department and the future construction. Wu Changxin, in 2020, the Academy of Science and Culture and the Department of Science History will not forget their original intentions, and strive to create a fertile ground for the study of Chinese science history and science and culture.
