    摘要:The seminar will discuss processes of transformation of scientific knowledge that took place during the Renaissance in Europe. In particular, the discussion will focus on astronomy and the subjects that were being taught in European universities. Through a data-driven approach and the use of computational history methods and techniques, such as network theory and machine learning models, the mechanism, against whose background a process of homogenization of scientific knowledge took place, will be discussed. The seminar will conclude with the hypothesis concerning the active role of scientific knowledge in the process of cultural identity formation in pre-modern Europe.


    主讲人介绍:Matteo Valleriani currently holds a position at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin, where he leads a research group in the institute's first department. Additionally, he serves as an honorary professor at the Technical University of Berlin and a visiting professor at Tel Aviv University. His research delves into the interconnections between the dissemination of scientific, practical, and technical knowledge and their social, economic, and political contexts. His study periods primarily cover the Hellenistic period, late Middle Ages, and early modern era. Valleriani is currently leading a project titled "The Sphere: Knowledge System Evolution and the Shared Scientific Identity of Europe," examining the development and formation of a unified scientific identity in European cosmological knowledge from the 13th to the 17th century. Another focal point of his research involves knowledge transmission through visual media. Furthermore, within the realm of digital humanities, Valleriani is dedicated to applying complex systems theory, machine learning, and artificial intelligence methods to historical analysis.
