Introduction of 2021 "Application-examination System" for doctoral candidates of the Institute of Frontier and Interdisciplinary Studies of Peking University

In 2021, the Institute will continue to recruit doctoral students based on comprehensive quality and ability. Applicants are required to register and submit application materials in accordance with the regulations of our school and the relevant requirements of our school. After reviewing and evaluating the materials of the applicant, the admission expert panel of each specialty of our college will confirm whether the applicant is eligible for the examination. The admission of those who meet the requirements will be confirmed through the examination. Specific measures are as follows:

1. Enrollment targets and basic conditions

1. Support the leadership of the Communist Party of China, have the correct political direction, love the motherland, willing to serve the socialist modernization, abide by the laws, regulations and rules and regulations of the school, conduct a good character.

2. Applicants for the doctoral degree must meet one of the following conditions:

(1) have obtained a master's or doctor's degree;

(2) Fresh graduates with a master's degree (must obtain a master's degree before entering the school in the year of admission; Those who have obtained a degree in a foreign institution shall also obtain the Certificate of Foreign Academic Degree issued by the Service Center for Overseas Study of the Ministry of Education before entering the university in the year of admission.

(3) Applicants who have received the bachelor's degree for at least 6 years (counting from the date of receiving the bachelor's degree to the date of admission of the doctoral student) may apply for the examination under the status of equivalent education (applicants with the status of equivalent education, Have published more than 2 academic papers (as the first or second author) in national core journals of the discipline, major or similar research field, or have obtained provincial or ministerial awards related to the discipline (ranking top 5);

3. Meet the physical and mental health requirements of Peking University postgraduate entrance examination.

Ii. Major and related requirements for enrollment

1. Biology

Applicants with a strong interest and creativity in life sciences and science or engineering (e.g., mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering, psychology, information, computer science, etc.) are welcome to apply. Applicants should have a strong interest in academic research, a strong sense of innovation, innovation ability and professional level.

2. Data Science (Computer Science and Technology)

Candidates with strong interest and basic knowledge in the intersection of data science and biomedical imaging (including machine learning-based biomedical imaging, image segmentation, image registration, multimodal image fusion algorithms, etc.) are preferred. Applicants should have a strong interest in academic research, a strong sense of innovation, independent research ability and professional level.

3. Mechanics (Biomechanics and Medical Engineering)

Research interests include: advanced biomedical imaging technology and clinical application, biomedical engineering technology and clinical application research, brain information processing reverse engineering and brain-computer fusion (online registration does not need to distinguish research fields); Applicants can major in science, engineering and medical engineering (such as mathematics, mechanics, physics, chemistry, electronic information engineering, mechanical and electrical automation engineering, data science, computer science, medical imaging, biomedical engineering), have a strong interest in the above interdisciplinary research directions, and have a clear desire for scientific research exploration and engineering innovation.

4. History of Science and Technology

The research fields include: History of modern and contemporary Science, Technology and Medicine in China, History of Science in Peking University, Science and Technology and Society (there is no need to distinguish the research field when applying online).

Applicants are welcome to major in the history of science and medical science. Applicants from other science or engineering majors (such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering, psychology, information technology, computer science, etc.) with a strong interest in the history of science, technology and medical science and creativity are welcome to apply. Applicants should have a strong interest in academic research, a strong sense of innovation, innovation ability and professional level. Candidates from humanities and social science majors who are interested in the history of science and technology, the history of medicine, science and culture, and have the awareness and ability to participate in the interdisciplinary research of natural sciences and humanities and social sciences are also welcome to apply.

5. Foreign Languages and Literature (National and Regional Studies)

The orientation of admission is Middle East Studies, Central Asian and Russian Studies, and Southeast Asian studies. Strong interest in regional and national studies, strong learning ability and innovation awareness are required.

The following application materials are sent to the admission office of each specialty. If each copy is more than 2 pages, please bind it yourself. Please arrange all materials according to the order of (1) - (8) and put them into the envelope. Please choose China Post EMS express to send the materials.

(1) Registration Form for 2021 PhD Candidates of Peking University: Register online and pay

If successful, you can download the registration form from the registration website. After printing, you must sign your name on page 2 and page 3.

(2) The copy of the highest degree and degree certificate (this year's master graduates must submit the certification letter of the graduate school or graduate department of the training unit, and the copy of the diploma and degree certificate must be submitted before enrollment, and they can only register after being approved; If you only have a diploma but not a diploma, you must submit a copy of your master's or doctor's degree certificate; For those who have obtained academic degree certificates from overseas institutions, they must submit a copy of the Certificate of Academic Degree Certificate issued by the Service Center for Overseas Study of the Ministry of Education.

(3) A copy of the ID card;

(4) Master's dissertation (this year's master graduates can provide dissertation abstract and thesis catalog, etc.), published academic papers and other original research results;

A) Biology, Science and Technology History, Data Science (Computer Science and Technology) :

①Score of 60 or above in Peking University English Proficiency Test (PKU-GATE) for Doctoral candidates (from December 2015 to January 2019);

TOEFL score of 90 or above (IBT) (taken after September 1, 2019);

GRE score of 300 or above (test after September 1, 2016);

(4) Score above 525 in CET-4 and 450 or above in CET-6;

(5) Passed TEM-4 or TEM-8;

⑥IELTS (Academic) score 6.5 or above (take the test after September 1, 2019);

⑦have written a dissertation in English and obtained a degree in English-speaking countries or regions;

⑧English academic papers published (including accepted papers) as the first or second author in journals or conferences of disciplines, majors or similar research fields.

B) Mechanics (Biomechanics and Medical Engineering) :

①Score of 60 or above in Peking University English Proficiency Test (PKU-GATE) for Doctoral candidates (from December 2015 to January 2019);

TOEFL score of 90 or above (IBT) (taken after September 1, 2019);

GRE score of 300 or above (test after September 1, 2016);

(4) Score above 500 in CET-4 and 425 or above in CET-6;

(5) Passed TEM-4 or TEM-8;

⑥IELTS (Academic) score 6.5 or above (take the test after September 1, 2019);

⑦Write dissertation in English and obtain degree in English speaking countries or regions;

⑧English academic papers published (including accepted papers) as the first or second author in journals or conferences of disciplines, majors or similar research fields.

C) Foreign Language and Literature (National and Regional Studies) :

I: The foreign language is English

①TOEFL score of 95 or above (test after September 1, 2019);

(2) IELTS (Class A) score above 7 (including) (test after September 1, 2019);

(3) A score of 550 or above in the National English Test Band 6;

④Students who have participated in degree programs taught in English in native English speaking countries or regions should write their disserations in English, and have been certified by the Overseas Study Service Center of the Ministry of Education

II: The foreign language is Russian

①Have participated in degree programs taught in Russian in native Russian speaking countries or regions to obtain a degree, dissertation written in Russian, and has been certified by the Service Center for Overseas Study of the Ministry of Education;

(2) Graduate from the Russian major and obtain a degree, the dissertation is written in Russian;

(3) Passed the certificate of Grade 8 examination of Russian Major

Note: Only English and Russian are accepted as foreign languages for the major in Foreign Language and Literature (National and Regional Studies). If you can provide evidence of your results in other languages (such as Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Hebrew, Vietnamese, Thai, Burmese, Tagalog, Malay, Indonesian, etc.), please send them together. The only other professionally recognized foreign language is English.

3. Those who only register online but do not mail or send (deliver) the materials on time, or only mail the materials but do not register online will be deemed as unsuccessful.

4. Apply for full-time doctoral students who do not transfer files (they must be university teachers or researchers in research institutions), and the type of application shall be filled in "Orientation" (the type of application shall not be modified after the second examination).

5. Those who have signed the orientation training and orientation Employment Agreement and are still in the validity period of the agreement shall truthfully explain to the department and provide the approval certificate of orientation institution.

5. Each applicant can only apply for one volunteer. There is no need to fill in the tutor, and the tutor will be determined after admission.

4. Selection and Admission 1. Preliminary examination

According to the applicant's application materials and application materials, the admission working group of each specialty of our college will select the best candidates to enter the examination.

2. Second interview

After entering the second examination, the applicant shall submit the original ID card, the original certificate of academic degree and the original certificate of foreign language proficiency and other materials, which shall be checked according to the requirements of the department. Holders of foreign educational and degree certificates shall also submit the original Certificate of Foreign Educational and Degree Certificates issued by the Service Center for Overseas Study of the Ministry of Education for verification. If the department has questions about the academic degree certificate or foreign language proficiency certificate, the applicant shall submit the certification report issued by the authority according to the requirements of the department.

The second interview shall be conducted by way of interview or "written test + interview". The second interview shall be conducted by difference. The specific form of the second interview for each major will be notified separately. The second test examines the subject background, professional quality, operational skills and foreign language proficiency of the students

Level, thinking ability, innovation ability as well as the applicant's comprehensive ability to analyze, solve problems and make innovations. Both the written test and the interview adopt the percentage system or convert to the percentage system. 60 points will be passed, and those who fail either the written test or the interview will not be admitted.

Applicants are required to make a report to the admission expert panel, including personal research experience and achievements, understanding and views of the research field they plan to engage in, ideas and reasons for their proposed research work, etc.

The time of the second examination is determined by each enrollment major, which is expected to be arranged in the middle and late March 2021. Please refer to the notice on the college website for the specific arrangement.

Step 3: Admission

For qualified candidates, the list of candidates to be admitted will be determined based on the best. Those who fail in any assessment will not be admitted. After being approved by the graduate School, the list will be publicized for 10 working days. The admitted doctoral students should submit their ID cards and original academic degree certificates to the admitted departments for verification on the registration day. Those who do not have degree certificates will not register. Holders of foreign academic degree certificates shall also submit the original Certificate of Foreign Academic Degree Certificate issued by the Service Center for Overseas Study of the Ministry of Education for verification.

V. Handling of violations

In case of any violation or falsification in the examination of doctoral student enrollment, once verified, the university will seriously deal with the violation in the National Education Examination and other relevant regulations. Students in school will be notified to their schools, and their schools will punish them according to relevant regulations until they are expelled from school. For in-service examinees, the examinee's unit will be notified, and the examinee's unit will give Party discipline or political discipline punishment according to the circumstances. If the case constitutes a violation of the law, the judicial organ shall investigate the legal responsibility according to law, and if the case constitutes a crime, the criminal responsibility shall be investigated according to law.

Vi. Supervision mechanism

1. In accordance with the principle of "openness, fairness and justice", the hospital will publish the relevant instructions, assessment procedures, list of reexamination and list of proposed admission for doctoral students on its website.

2. The Graduate Admission Office and relevant departments of the university shall supervise the graduate enrollment of each department throughout the whole process. In case of any dispute arising in the admission process, applicants may appeal to the doctoral student Admission working group of our Hospital; If there is still a dispute, you can appeal to the Graduate Admission Office of Peking University.
