Born in Shanghai in July 1945, Prof. HAN Qide is a native of Cixi, Zhejiang province. He is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a fellow of the World Academy of Sciences-for the advancement of science in developing countries, and a foreign fellow of the American Academy of Medical Sciences.
He graduated from Shanghai First Medical College in 1968 and worked as a clinician in several hospitals in Lintong, Shaanxi. He received a master's degree in pathophysiology from Xi'an Medical College in 1982. In 1985, he went to the Department of Pharmacology of Emory University in the United States for advanced studies, and then engaged in teaching and research at Beijing Medical University (the Peking University Health Science Center now).
Prof. Han was the former Executive Vice President and the Dean of the Graduate School of Peking University, Dean of Peking University Health Science Center, Vice Chairman of the 10thand 11thNational People's Congress Standing Committee, President of the Western Returned Scholars Association · Overseas-Educated Scholars Association of China, Chairman of the China Association for Science and Technology, Chairman of the 11th, 12thand 13thCentral Committee of Jiusan Society, Vice Chairman of the 12thCPPCC National Committee. He is currently the Honorary Chairman of the China Association for Science and Technology, the Dean of the China Association for Science and Technology-Peking University (Joint) Institute for Science Culture, and the Director of the Department of History of Science, Technology and Medicine of Peking University.
